Swami Atmasthananda
Kolkata: Swami Atmasthananda was elected president of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission at a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the math and the governing body of the mission here on Monday. He is the 15th president of the Ramakrishna Order.
Swami Atmasthananda succeeds Swami Gahanananda who passed away on November 4. Swami Atmasthananda was one of the vice-presidents of the math and the mission since May 22, 1997. Born in 1919 at Sabajpur near Dhaka, he received the “mantra diksha” from Swami Vijnanananda, a direct disciple of Sri Ramakrishna, in 1938 and joined the Ramakrishna Order on January 3, 1941, general secretary of the math, Swami Prabhananda, said.
