BANGALORE: Tuluverenklu Bangalore (We are Tuluvas of Bangalore) has organised its annual Baliyendra Festival and Baliyendra Award ceremony here on October 8. As the name suggests, Tuluverenklu is an organisation comprising people speaking the Tulu language. Tulu, a Dravidian language, is spoken by the majority in coastal districts of Karnataka – Dakshina Kannada and Udupi and Kasaragod district in Kerala. Formed in 1991, Tuluverenklu in Bangalore has been striving to bring Tulu speaking people together and promote their cultural identity. The annual Baliyendra Parba (festival of Bali) will be celebrated at the Secretariat Club Auditorium in Cubbon Park from 4 p.m. onwards. The Baliyendra award will be conferred on A.S. Hegde, director, Sri Satya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Whitefield, singer Shashidhar Kote and sportsperson Bhanumathi Mendon. While Advocate General B.V. Acharya inaugurates the celebrations, Lok Sabha member and State BJP president D.V. Sadananda Gowda presides. . The general body meeting of the association will be held on the same day from 3 p.m., at the same venue.
