On violation of human rights of Malaysian citizens of Indian origin CHENNAI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should take up with his Malaysian counterpart Abdullah Ahmad Badawi the issue of violation of human rights of Malaysian citizens of Indian origin, Hindu Rights Action Force (HINDRAF) founder-leader P. Wayathamoorthy said on Tuesday. Malaysia will heed India’s concerns, if raised, in view of its several economic tie-ups. “India is an economic giant. In future, Malaysia’s reliance on India will only be more,” he leader told a press conference here. Asked for his reaction to Malaysian Foreign Minister Hamid Albar’s statement that other countries should be mindful of his nation’s rights, Mr. Wayathamoorthy said Malaysia was a member of the United Nations and had signed several covenants. The world community had every right to raise its voice on issues concerning denial of basic rights. Besides, the South-East Asian nation had international commitments to fulfil. To another query, he said his organisation would approach the UN on this issue. Criticising Malaysian authorities for neglecting the Tamil schools, he said concerned citizens had mobilised funds to improve the amenities.
