Stance vindicated, says Tehran

Atul Aneja

DUBAI: Iran has welcomed a key intelligence report of the United States which concludes that Tehran had ceased its nuclear weapons programme four years ago. The latest U.S. National Intelligence Estimate says that Iran had stopped its nuclear weapons programme in 2003.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki welcomed the change in perception about his country’s atomic programme. “It’s natural that we welcome it when those countries, who in the past, have questions and ambiguities about this case... now amend their views realistically,” he said.

Iranian state TV also lauded the report and described its findings as a “victory” for Iran. It observed that Iran had been “honest” about its atomic programme and the report had “vindicated” its stance. The International Atomic Energy Agency also approved of the conclusions of the report.
