Raghunath strikes twice in CoE’s victory over PCTC

BANGALORE: Raghunath struck in the 27th and 32nd minutes for Centre of Excellence to fashion a 3-1 victory over Pioneer Corps Training Centre in the KSHA ‘A’ division hockey league championship here on Tuesday. Danesh Mujtaba scored the other goal for CoE while Sai Raj Singh reduced the margin for PCTC.

In other matches, SAI `B’ prevailed over Coorg Blues 3-1 while MEG drew 1-1 with DBHA.

Bangalore Blues beats Bentex

Bangalore Blues defeated Bentax 2-1 in a ‘C’ division football league match at the 515 Army Base Workshop ground here on Tuesday.

Karthik and Mahesh scored for Bangalore Blues, while Ranksha reduced the margin.

Atreya scores century

Helped by an unbeaten 123 from Atreya Inamdar Hubli City defeated Gadag District XI by 70 runs in the under-13 KSCA inter-district league in Hubli on Tuesday.

The scores: Hubli City XI 222 for five in 45 overs (Atreya Inamdar 123) bt Gadag XI 152 in 36.5 overs (G. Atish 5 for 29).

Monday’s scores: Hubli City XI 164 for 7 in 45 overs (Atreya Inamdar 49, Sounak Biswas 42) tied with Belgaum XI, 164 all out in 44 overs (Hritwik Shetty 57, R. Aniruddh four for 21).

Dharwad City XI 230 for five in 45 overs (Hanumanth Mangle 73, Samarth Ooty 68) bt Karwar XI 68 in 30.2 overs (Akash Noola five for 22, Likhit Bennur three for nine).

Team Eagleton triumphs

France’s Ludivine Kreutz led team Eagleton to the Pro-Am title on the eve of the EMAAR-MGF Ladies Masters here on Tuesday.

Ludivine and her team of K.N. Bhat, Sesh Velmour and Sudheer Krishna Swami carded 55.

The second place on count back was bagged by the Women’s Golf Association of India team, led by another French pro, Virgina Lagoutte-Clement, and comprising Charu Sharma, N. Shanthkumar and Rajeev Bal with a net 58.

EMAAR-MGF team comprising Marta Prieto (Spain), Vikram Chandra, Shane O’Neill and Raj Krishna finished third, also with a score of 58.

Azharia FC posts win

A last-minute penalty by Ansar helped Azharia FC (Mangalore) draw its ‘A’ division football league tie against Mangalore Sporting FC 1-1 at the Nehru Maidan, Mangalore, on Tuesday. Shah Nawaz found the net in the 13th minute of the second half for Mangalore Sporting FC.

Logo unveiled

The BSNL Bangalore International Marathon 2007 logo was unveiled in Bangalore by Malathi Holla, along with Pramila Aiyappa and and Lingappa on Tuesday. Over 3,800 entries have been registered so far.

Ladies golf

The EMAAR-MGF’s Ladies Masters, the first ever Ladies European Tour event here tees off at the Eagleton Resort on Wednesday.

The four day event has attracted a stellar field, headlined by Germany’s Bettina Hauert, who currently heads the Ladies European Tour Order Of Merit with earnings of 216,998 euros from 17 tournaments.

The others in the fray include Briton Laura Davies, France’s Gwladys Nocera and Sweden’s Sophie Gustafson.

Smriti Mehra is the highest ranked pro from India in the field of 72.

Nonita Qureshi, Sanniya Sharma, Tania Wadhwa, Meghana Bal, Shalini Malik and Irina Brar are the other Indian contenders.
