KARUR: The State Government has reintroduced “Namakku Naame” scheme in Karur district under which a group of people have to bear one-third of project cost and two-thirds contribution would come from the government. People should come forward to utilise the opportunity, Collector T.N. Venkatesh said. Addressing a special meeting on the scheme here recently, Mr. Venkatesh said development works, including construction of government school buildings, compound walls for schools, laboratories, lavatories, hospitals, primary health centres, veterinary clinics, libraries, drinking water facilities, fair price shops, bus shelters and cement roads, could be taken up under the scheme. Mr. Venkatesh informed that if the contribution were to exceed 50 per cent, then the contributing group could itself be entrusted with the job. Public, self-help groups, private institutions, volutary organisations, should get in touch with the district administration with the specific nature of the work and the public contribution. Collectors have been empowered to inspect the works, approve the estimates and follow up on the sanction. Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency, M. Madhavi took part in the meeting.
