HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam party has questioned Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s assertion that he was able to get more investments and industries during the last three years than in the nine-year TDP rule. At a press conference, senior TDP leaders -- K. Vidyadhara Rao and M. Narsimhulu -- said the Chief Minister has developed this habit of taking credit for everything good that happened in TDP from International Airport to rapid progress in IT and biotechnology industry even while opposing them as Leader of the Opposition. Mr. Rao said industries did not come up overnight. They required a lot of commitment on the part of the political leadership, which former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had in developing infrastructure and building manpower. Naidu’s achievementMr. Naidu pushed up the State’s position from 23rd in terms of industrialisation to second. More importantly, he promoted the State in general and Hyderabad as best investment destination all over the world and this was endorsed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in an international meeting at Washington. In contrast, the present Chief Minister’s casual attitude was responsible for many a manufacturing industry such as Volkswagen and BMW going to other States. A Canadian engineering design company shifted to Gujarat after a row between the A P Industrial Infrastructure Corporation and Chief Minister’s Office while a DVD making firm and Chemplast chose other States. There were several irregularities in the allotment of land for Special Economic Zones, Mr. Vidydhara Rao said. Indu Projects, Brahmani Steels and Rahejas were allotted 250 hectares against the norms. In fact Andhra Pradesh stood first in land acquisition for SEZs, much against the Central rules.
