Call for steps to end immoral trafficking
Staff Reporter
Kakinada: HELP, an Ongole-based NGO fighting immoral trafficking, is observing December 5 as Anti-Trafficking Day as part of its efforts to check the menace in Andhra Pradesh. A sizable number of the women and girls from East Godavari district were landing in brothels, said HELP founder N.V.S. Rammohan Rao at a press conference here on Tuesday.
Quoting from the police records, Mr. Rao said Guntur district ranked number one in immoral trafficking in coastal Andhra Pradesh and it is followed by the Godavari districts in the second and third slots.
“If this menace is to be curbed, there is an urgent need for proper planning,” he said.
Girls below 18 years should not be arrested even if they were found to be involved in the flesh trade. They should be sent to protection homes, he observed.
