KARIMNAGAR: The indefinite hunger strike launched by TDP Metpally Assembly constituency in-charge Kalvakuntla Vidyasagar Rao and others has entered the third day on Tuesday. The stir was held in front of Nizam Deccan Sugars Limited, Muthyampet village in Mallapur mandal, demanding that the government provide minimum support price of Rs. 1,500 per quintal for sugarcane Talking to The Hindu, Mr. Vidyasagar Rao said that sugarcane was extensively grown in Mallapur, Ibrahimpatnam and Metpally and other mandals of the region. This year, the farmers had harvested about 2 lakh metric tonnes of sugarcane in their fields. But, the sugar factory management had announced MSP of only Rs. 1,050 per quintal against last year’s Rs. 1,150. Farmers of the region were coming in large numbers to the agitation camp to extend solidarity with the TDP leaders.
