Sky is the limit: Aerobatic display at Navy Day celebrations in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday. -

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Eastern Naval Command gave an impressive display of its multi-dimensional warfare capability at an operational display to mark the Navy Day here on Tuesday. The crowd that comprised naval personnel, government officials, schoolchildren and local people had a glimpse of the might of the ENC, as almost every wing of the command exhibited their operational skill.

The display was signalled with the firing of a 84mm rocket by the Marine Commandos (Marcos) which also announced the arrival of the Governor of Andhra Pradesh N.D. Tiwari who was the chief guest.

The Governor was received by the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of ENC Vice-Admiral Raman Prem Suthan.

The firing was followed by a precision landing by six sky divers. The leader of the diving team presented the Navy Week brochure to the Governor. The highlight of the show was the display put up by the formation aerobatic team of the Indian Navy 551 Squadron, Sagar Pavan. The four indigenously built Kiran MK-IIs not only ripped through the blue sky under various formations and formed loops, double loops, crosses and hearts but also held the audience spellbound with their dare devilry.The Marcos also presented a daring display of various combat capabilities like amphibious beach assault and remote detonation of oil rig.

The commandos from the Indian Army who were drafted from various regiments like 16 Madras and14 Bihar also showcased an amphibious assault.
