Chettinad Vidyashram scores an easy win

Easy win for FUC

Friends United Club scored an emphatic 6-0 win over Gandhinagar in the Susai memorial football tournament, organised by Shastri Soccer Club, at Trimulgherry Village Grounds here.

Arshad CA wins

Arshad Ayub Cricket Academy recorded a comfortable, 49-run win over St. John’s Academy in the Fighters & Martyrs Cup cricket tournament here.

The scores: Arshad Ayub CA 148 for four in 20 overs (Nitesh 56) bt St.John’s Academy 99 for six.

Inter-university volleyball

Nearly 600 players and 100 officials from 48 universities will participate in the South Zone inter-university men’s volleyball tournament to be held at the Andhra University Golden Jubilee grounds in Visakhapatnam from December 6 to11, the AU Vice-Chancellor, L. Venugopal Reddy, said at a press conference on Monday.

All arrangements are in place and the knock-out phase will commence on December 10.

Earlier, Reddy inaugurated a cricket bowling machine in the north campus (AU College of Engineering). The bowling machine was worth Rs. 2.30 lakh.

Karnataka in quarterfinals

Karnataka moved into the quarterfinals of the all-India under-22 cricket tournament for the C.K. Nayudu Trophy, beating Punjab by 62 runs at the Port Stadium in Visakhapatnam here on Monday.

Off-spinner Arjun (four wickets) and medium-pacer S.K. Akshay (three wickets) restricted Punjab to 212 after it resumed at 15 for one on the final day.

After No. 3 batsman Mayank Sidana (43, 8x4) and Manish Bhatia (16) added 62 runs for third wicket, Tanmeeth Singh Bawa, who remained not out on 71 (11x4) after coming in at No. 6, and Hitesh Anand (24) made good efforts.

But Karnataka, which batted well in the second innings after conceding a 105-run first innings lead, came out victor.

In the quarterfinals from December 6 to 9, Karnataka meets Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, which beat Rajasthan on Sunday, takes on Bengal.

The scores: Karnataka 200 and 379 bt Punjab 305 and 212 in 81.3 overs (Tanmeeth Singh Bawa 71 not out, Mayank Sidana 43, Arjun four for 71).

Visakhapatnam claims overall title

Host Visakhapatnam claimed the overall championship in the 28th State sub-junior and junior inter-district winter aquatic championships which concluded at Visakhapatnam on Monday.

Visakhapatnam secured 341 points. Krishna, with 220 points, was the runner-up. Ranga Reddy was third with 171 points.
