‘Emergency cases taken up’

HYDERABAD: Even as the Niloufer junior doctors continued with their strike on Tuesday, higher authorities maintained that all emergency cases were being attended to and enough staff was deputed as replacement to the striking doctors.

In all, there were over 50 junior doctors working at Niloufer hospital and in view of their participating in the strike, 22 doctors have been deputed from A.P.Vaidya Vidhana Parishad, said a senior official at the hospital.

However, the official maintained that there was need to depute more replacement doctors to ensure good medicare for the children. Earlier in the day, junior doctors from different government hospitals in twin cities gathered at Osmania Medical College in Koti and staged a demonstration.

“The State Government gave us enough assurances in the year 2004 stating that attacks on doctors would be severely acted upon and adequate security would be provided at hospitals to check entry of unauthorised persons. But till date there was no implementation of the assurances,” pointed out State Junior Doctors Association General Secretary Raj Kirit. He said strike would not be withdrawn until the government issued an ordinance in immediate implementation of their demands.

Extending support to junior doctors, the Andhra Pradesh Government Nurses Association Secretary K. Sujavathi condemned Mr. Khan’s act and said a final decision on participating of nurses in the strike would be taken on Wednesday.
