HYDERABAD: Fresh Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) are to be issued to voters of the 13 Assembly constituencies of the twin cities under Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) jurisdiction from January 8 onwards. The EPICs will be issued free of charge at the permanent electoral registration centres to be established in each of the 18 circles as soon as the final list of the photo electoral rolls are published in the first week of January. “The centres will be equipped with a scanning and lamination machine to issue EPICs. The cards will be given to those attaining 18 years of age and also for people coming here on a transfer any time of the year, said Additional Commissioner (Elections) A. Dharma Reddy. At a press conference on Tuesday, he claimed that images of an average 80 per cent of the 47.6 lakh electors in the constituencies were captured through door-to-door verification in the last one month. Time frame for receiving claims and objections has been extended from the scheduled 15 to 21 days to cover the remaining 20 per cent voters. The last date for filing claims and objections will be December 21 and officials are confident of including at least 10 per cent electors more in the list. “We will give wide publicity and also establish a common helpline in head office for citizens to submit their petitions,” he said.
