Woman dies of burns

CHENNAI: A 25-year-old woman died of burn injuries at the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital on Tuesday.

Police said that Mangayarkarasi, wife of casual worker Madasami, was living in Moopanar Street in Korukkupet. There were some differences of opinion between her and Madasami’s mother Kanniammal. On Sunday, Kanniammal allegedly poured kerosene on Mangayarkarasi and set her fire in which she suffered burns. In a serious condition, Mangayarkarasi was rushed to the hospital, but died. The R.K.Nagar police have registered a case of murder. Further investigation is on.

Three drowned

Three persons, including two engineering college students, from Kancheepuram district allegedly drowned after they went for a swim at the Elliots Beach, Besant Nagar, on Sunday.

Shastri Nagar police recovered the bodies and identified the students as Ramesh, Nasir Ansari and Gajendran, an electrician from West Mambalam. Police said that they had rescued a student Vikrant with the help of rescue teams on Sunday and admitted him to Government Royapettah Hospital.
