Bangalore: Polio has again surfaced in the State. A two-month-old baby of a migrant family from Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh staying here temporarily has tested positive for the disease. Additional Chief Secretary Usha Ganesh told presspersons here on Tuesday that the family had been staying here since September. There were about 50 huts in the locality where families of migrant labourers live. No polio case has been reported in the State since 2004, largely due to the successful implementation of the annual Pulse Polio programme. Various government departments and Rotary Clubs will conduct the Pulse Polio programme on December 9 this year in the area under the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike and Bangalore Urban, Bangalore Rural and Ramanagara districts. All children up to the age of five will be administered polio vaccine. Ms. Ganesh said 13,30,053 children would be covered through 4,350 vaccination booths.
