Biometric data collection for U.K. visas

HYDERABAD: The United Kingdom has decided to use biometrics technology in all its 12 centres across the country for collection of data as part of the procedure to apply for visa. The new system is said to be a “quick, simple and discreet” process that requires no ink or chemicals. It involves no additional cost for the applicants and is aimed at making “the U.K. a safer place to visit.” Already rolled out in 130 countries, the new system will provide speedier access to ports and airports in the U.K. All that the applicants need to do is to attend in person at the designated centres where the biometric data would be collected.

According to Dan Chugg, first secretary and director of press & communications, British High Commission, the service was being rolled out in India as it accounted for the biggest operations for the U.K.
