This Day That Age
Singapore’s Chief Minister, Mr. Lim Ye Hock, on December 4 told the Legislative Assembly that his Government had decided to gazette India as a Commonwealth country under the colony’s Citizenship Ordinance. This would mean that any Indian living in the island for two years can become a Singapore citizen without undergoing the difficult process of first becoming a United Kingdom and Colony citizen and then apply for Singapore citizenship. He said, “We are making it easy for Indians to register in recognition of the Indian community’s role as an integral part of our society.”
