Letters to the Editor
The editorial, ‘Bravo Murali (Dec. 4),’ was a fitting tribute to Muttiah Muralitharan — one of the greatest spinners to have graced the game of cricket — for surpassing the world record for most number of Test wickets. As you have pointed out, Murali has been an inseparable part of the Sri Lankan cricket team for more than a decade and a half and is still going strong. That he has taken just 116 Tests to go past Australian Shane Warne’s 708-wicket mark and has been instrumental in scripting many a famous victory for his side from seemingly difficult situations speak volumes about the man’s calibre. J. Anantha Padmnabhan, Srirangam Whenever a cricketer dishes out exceptional performances, he always enters into a controversy about where he got his talents — was it something crooked or illegal that he has resorted to? Murali is a God-gifted man as far as his talents as a bowler are concerned and that cannot be denied. Masuma Rehman, Guwahati
