Company donates sportswear, shoes to rural sportspersons
Staff Reporter
KARUR: The recent golden jubilee Republic Day sports meet organised at the divisional level involving sportspersons from the predominantly rural districts of Karur and Perambalur at Pugalur near here recently saw intense competition as well as philanthropic gesture.
While the sportspersons, mostly from humble backgrounds, vied for the top honours at the various events, Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL) Managing Director V. Murthy was pained at the way athletes were forced to compete barefoot and without any sportswear.
As the curtains came down on the events, Mr. Murthy arranged for new sportswear and footwear for the sportspersons from rural and backward Perambalur and Karur districts. He instantly sanctioned Rs. 1,36,200 to provide them with sports shoes and tracksuits and the thrilled players went home sporting broad smiles. Inspector General of Police and Chief Vigilance Officer C. Sylendra Babu gave an inspiring and soul-stirring speech that enthused the competitors and public alike.
Chief Education Officer Pon Kumar Karur welcomed the gathering while Principal of TNPL Matriculation School, Kagithapuram, K. Govindaraju offered felicitations.
