Sub-station-wise view on power supply mooted Incentives for alternative crops favoured ANANTAPUR: The All-Party Farmers’ Associations would themselves lead a delegation to New Delhi demanding support price for paddy, groundnut, cotton, sugarcane and other crops soon, if the State government failed to take a team there for appraising the problem to the Centre, State president of A.P. Rythu Sangham K. Ramakrishna said here on Wednesday. He reminded that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had first refused to lead a delegation on the issue to the Prime Minister stating that he was not willing to share the credit with other parties or associations. In fact, he had visited Delhi but had not achieved anything. Later, he had told the Assembly that he would lead a delegation to Delhi but it had not happened so far. The All-Party Farmers’ Associations and unions would themselves go to Delhi to impress upon the Prime Minister and other concerned officials and Ministers on the issue of support price for paddy, groundnut and other crops soon, if the Chief Minister would fail to keep his word, Mr. Ramakrishna said. On the choice being given to the farmers about a seven-hour uninterrupted power supply in the night or day, he suggested the government seek the opinion of farmers sub-station-wise before deciding upon the timings. There was good rain this year and the groundwater table was also good. The farmers would require at least nine-hour supply to raise crops, he noted. HLC ayacutHe took exception to the decision being forced upon the farmers on the HLC ayacut by the State Government not to cultivate paddy from next year. Instead it could also offer incentives like supply of seed, fertilizers, marketing facility for the alternative crops. It was not proper to force its decision on the farmers, he felt.
