DAVANGERE: Srinivas Basapathi, general secretary of the district unit of the Janata Dal (Secular) and Shankuntala Odeyar, president of the district party women’s wing, have said that the party had not split as some political parties and the media had projected. They said it was natural for differences of opinion to exist in all parties. Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, Mr. Basapathi said some parties including the Congress and Samajwadi Party had stated that the JD(S) had been split into several groups and alleged that it was extremely misleading. He called upon the Congress and Samajwadi parties not to indulge in petty politics in a bid to allure leaders of the JD(S). Mr. Basapathi said the BJP had failed to accept the 12-point formula of the JD(S) while forming the new Government, which was reason enough for party supremo H.D. Deve Gowda to issue a whip to his legislators to vote against BJP leader B.S. Yeddyurappa. Certain factions within the BJP had also worked against Mr. Yeddyurappa to prevent him from holding charge. The JD(S) would organise village stay programmes of the former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy to explain its stand taken. The BJP was trying to derive public sympathy by saying that the JD(S) had betrayed it, Mr. Basapathi said and added that the people would realise the truth for themselves sooner or later.
