It is for improving their performance in examinations GULBARGA: Deputy Director of Public Instructions N.B. Patil has said that a plan has been drawn up for improving the performance of students in examinations, particularly SSLC, in the educational districts of Gulbarga and Yadgir. At a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Patil said that the Rs. 1.5-crore plan for the year 2007-08, would focus on personality development aspects, among other things. 35,000 to benefitMr. Patil said that the plan had been drawn up based on directions from the Gulbarga Zilla Panchayat to benefit around 35,000 students. As part of the plan, remedial teaching would be taken up for students who scored less than 40 marks in a subject at a preparatory test to be conducted by the department. Such students would be advised to attend remedial teaching sessions. Mr. Patil said that a series of mock preparatory examinations would also be conducted from the end of December to March 15, with a view to helping students overcome examination fear. He said fear was one of the reasons for poor performance by students. Distribution of booksRemedial teaching, preparatory examinations, improvement of infrastructure at examination centres and distribution of textbooks would be taken up by the department. Training would also be imparted to headmasters and teachers to improve their skills, he added.
