Medak SHGs floor Ghana bankers

A seven-member team studies working of SHGs in the district, promises funds for school building

Kambalapalli (Medak): Impressed by the performance of the women Self help groups in the district, a team of bankers from Ghana visited Kambalappaly village to get a first hand account on the working of SHGs in the district.

The seven member team which is currently on a training programme at Hyderabad-based Nisiet visited the village which also received the Nirmal Gram Purskar. George Osei Mensah of Amansie West Rural Bank limited, Rita Ahodetor of Upper Manya Kro Rural bank, Claver Kwaku Dadzie of ARB Apex Bank , Francis Mensah of Adonten Community bank, Daniel Ohene Kwaku Owusu. Ishmael and Mcnally of BSD Bank of Ghana were among the team that visited the village.

The bankers were accorded a warm welcome and were shown around the village -- its metal roads, community water tank for the animals and the school. The team members also danced along with the children on the school premises. They evinced keen interest about the toilets built by the Panchayat for the school children. They promised funds from the Ghana Government for the government school here. Later, they participated in the meting of the 13 SHG groups of the village at the local temple. They inquired about the minutes of the periodical meetings of the self help groups and the cooperation of the men folk of the village. Explaining the success of the SHGs, the Sadasivapet branch manager of the AP Grameena Vikasa Bank Mallupati Ravi said that the bank has financed the groups to the tune of Rs. 43 lakhs in one go.
