East Delhi residents seek quality services

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A group of residents’ welfare associations in East Delhi have written to Power Minister A. K. Walia demanding better services including improved wiring and street-lighting in their areas.

The Associations have also urged the Power Minister to direct the power distribution company to address the problem of regular power cuts. “Complaints to BSES about the frequent power cuts and poor street-lighting in Vivek Vihar have fallen on deaf ears. Even during the BSES-RWA meeting held on Monday we raised these issues, but to no avail. The officials refused to take up the matter under one pretext or the other,” said Ritu Bhatia, general secretary of the Vivek Vihar RWA.

“Privatisation was meant for providing better power and services to consumers, but the situation is as bad now as it was during the Delhi Vidyut Board days,” she added.

Rajesh Dokhwal of the Mayur Vihar Phase-III RWA said: “We have power cuts for four to five hours a day, even when there is not much demand for power.”

The residents complained that BSES had not responded to their demand. “We have been writing to BSES to change the old wires in our colony for the last two years. The street-lights are never functional and the BSES officials say that they have not been provided with the equipment to replace the lights,” said Rajiv Setia of the Priya Enclave RWA.
