Rajasekhara Reddy will visit Nellore district on Thursday to lay a foundation stone to the biggest ever integrated alloy steel project in the country -- Special Bar Quality (SBQ) Steels Limited -- at Ankul Patur of Chillakur mandal. The promotors, Chennai-based R.K.K.R. Steels Limited, initially wanted to set up the integrated alloy steel project in three phases at an investment of Rs 500 crore and an annual production capacity of 2.5 lakh tonnes at Kolanakoduru of Manubolu mandal. Rs. 1, 100 cr. investmentBut it has later resolved to invest more than Rs 1,100 crore to set up the biggest ever-integrated steel project in more than 500 acres of land with production capacity of five lakh tonnes per annum. In addition, it has also decided to set up 60 MW coal based thermal power project by importing coal from Australia via Krishnapatnam port project in a bid to generate required power supply for the project. It was forced to shift the project to Ankula Patur following the recent floods that inundated the area. The project, which will manufacture alloy and special steel required for the automotive and engineering sectors, might offer employment avenues to more than 3,00 persons, he added. According to Collector M. Ravi Chandra, the Chief Minister will arrive at Ankul Patur at 3.15 p.m. by helicopter from Kuppam. After laying foundation stone to SBQ Steels Limited, he will take part in various developmental activities. Tight security measuresMeanwhile, the district police have made unprecedented security arrangements for the Chief Minister’s visit to the district by deploying additional forces in the wake of Maoists’ attack on former Chief Minister N. Janardhana Reddy.
