New Delhi
Three of the 10 floors would be utilised for commercial use. Two more parking lots to come up on K.G. Marg and Sarojini Nagar NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for a new integrated multi-level parking project on Baba Kharak Singh Marg here. To be constructed on a build-operate-transfer basis, the 10-floor parking lot will accommodate 1,408 cars in an area of 6085.5 sq. metres and will be completed in 30 months by DLF Limited. In addition, three of its floors would be utilised for commercial use. The site is situated adjacent to some prominent religious places -- Hanuman Temple, Shiva Temple, Gurdwara Bangla Sahib and Sacred Heart Cathedral -- as well as commercial establishments such as Mohan Singh Place Market and State emporiums and is expected to serve citizens travelling by the Delhi Metro railway as well. A unique feature of the project is the first ever use of automated technology allowing for parking of more cars within a given area compared to a manual parking system. Apart from this parking lot, two other lots would be constructed on Kasturba Gandhi Marg and Sarojini Nagar. The lot at Sarojini Nagar would be constructed by DLF Limited and the one on Kasturba Gandhi Marg by D.S. Constructions. To be ready by 2010The parking site on Kasturba Gandhi Marg would have a capacity for 1,582 cars, whereas the lot at Sarojini Nagar would have a capacity for 824 cars. These sites would be commissioned before the Commonwealth Games in 2010. Ms. Dikshit lauded the New Delhi Municipal Council for taking the initiative in constructing such multi-level parking lots at three different locations in its area for decongesting surface parking. The foundation stone was laid in the presence of NDMC Chairman Parimal Rai and its Vice-Chairperson and MLA Tajdar Babar.
