Comic relief: M. Satyanarayana Rao makes a witty remark as Chitra Ramachandran, Principal Secretary (Transport), Vice-Chairman V. Dinesh Reddy and others break into smiles at the Bus Bhavan in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

HYDERABAD: Former Minister M. Satyanarayana Rao has said he still nurses the hope of a gubernatorial assignment.

Speaking to reporters after assuming charge as chairman of Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) here on Wednesday, Mr. Rao said even though he became the APSRTC chairman, he aspired for the post of a Governor.

Vast experience

He refuted the charge that Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy had made him the APSRTC chief to silence him from speaking on Telangana. “It is absolutely nonsense. I got the post because of my vast political experience. I am not a person who will forget his conviction for the sake of some post,” he remarked.

He thanked the Chief Minister for reposing faith in him and appointing him to the post with Cabinet rank. “I will not change my opinion even if I am given the post of Prime Minister,” he said.

Commenting on the speculation about the entry of film star Chiranjeevi into politics, he said everybody was welcome to do so in a democracy. On APSRTC, he said this was the second time he had taken over as the corporation chief. “I will not hesitate to oppose any move that would harm the interest of the corporation,” he added.

Telangana Development Board chairman V. Purshottam Reddy, APSRTC managing director V. Dinesh Reddy, Transport secretary Chitra Ramachandran and top officials of the APSRTC were present on the occasion.
