DINDIGUL: Students of Narasingapuram High School at A. Vellode, seven km from here, are attending classes and writing revision tests under trees as two classrooms and a new building meant for a laboratory have turned into godowns to stock colour television sets. “We cannot conduct revision tests for Standard X students, owing to lack of space. We conduct tests regularly to students to prepare them for public examinations. But television sets are stored in classrooms for the past four months. We have made the children to write revision tests under trees,” said teachers. This situation prevails in some other government schools also. Delay in distribution was the main reason for stocking them in classrooms, said officials. The District Revenue Officer, K. Chandrasekaran, said that normally television sets were not stocked beyond 15 days. In this case, there was a delay since the villagers demand more sets for them. He assured to look into the case of A. Vellode school and take steps to clear the classrooms. The Dindigul MLA, K. Balabarathi, who condemned the delay, urged the district administration to expedite the distribution of colour television sets and gas stoves to all genuine beneficiaries. In a letter submitted to the Collector on Wednesday, she alleged that television sets were given only to a few beneficiaries in ward-1 of Dindigul municipality last year. But no beneficiary in 47 wards had received the sets till date.
