HYDERABAD: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has asked the Collector of Medak district not to take steps to “dispossess” farmers of their lands in three villages of Gajwel mandal until it disposed of an appeal by the BJP in support of the farmers. The SHRC chairman Justice B. Subhashan Reddy on Wednesday issued an interim order to the Collector pending hearing on the BJP petition. He has also asked the Collector to furnish a report on the land acquisitions for an industrial park in the villages and call on him personally on December 20. Earlier, a BJP delegation led by its State president Bandaru Dattatreya petitioned Justice Reddy against the forcible acquisition of lands from poor farmers at Mutrajpalli, Lingarajpet and Sangapur villages where an industrial park is supposed to be constructed. Some of the victims were also present. Mr. Dattatreya informed Justice Reddy that the State Government had served notices seeking evacuation of farmers in 625 acres of assigned land in the three villages to pave way for construction of the park. He alleged that the Government wanted to acquire land at cheap rate and sell off to entrepreneurs at exorbitant rate. The middlemen made a fast buck in the process. Mr. Dattatreya warned that the BJP would lay siege to the Collectorates of Medak and East Godavari districts if the Government did not stop land acquisitions.
