CHENNAI: Speakers at a meeting here on Wednesday commended the Coimbatore-based Rajalakshmi Audio for releasing a set of compact discs incorporating thematic recordings of Carnatic music concerts during the 2006 December music season and other concerts held in Chennai.
Addressing the annual CD release function, N. Murali, Managing Director, The Hindu, and president of The Music Academy, lauded Rajalakshmi Audio for not abandoning its core competence of recording Carnatic music concerts.
The company was sustaining the business interest of audio cassettes and CDs at a time when music lovers were demanding free downloads from the Internet.
Mr. Murali also released CDs of concerts by leading musicians, including Aruna Sairam, T.M. Krishna, Nithyashri Mahadevan and Bombay Jayashri, held at The Music Academy and other sabhas in Chennai last year.
Senior advocate Nalini Chidambaram lauded the efforts of Rajalakshmi Audio at propagating Tamil isai through CDs all over the world.
Dancer K.J. Sarasa, who was the guest of honour, hoped that the company would grow from strength to strength in popularising Tamil isai.
T. Sathish Kumar of Rajalakshmi Audio said that though the company was taking several new initiatives, it would not give up its efforts at preserving and promoting Carnatic music.
