Police on alert

CHENNAI: The State police have been mobilised and put on alert in view of the Babri Masjid demolition anniversary on Thursday.

A senior officer said patrolling had been intensified. Police personnel had been posted at all major places of worship. Pickets were in place at vital installations. Mobile parties had been asked to be extra alert.

Open line patrolling was being done on rail track. Passengers’ baggage was being checked at major stations, a railway official said. — Special Correspondent
