Amanpreet wins silver

KUWAIT: Pistol shooter Amanpreet Singh opened India’s account at the Asian shooting championship, the last Olympic qualifying tournament for Asians, by taking the silver medal in the air pistol junior men event here.

Amanpreet shot 95.5 in the final after scoring 575 in the qualification round. His total of 670.5 was way below the gold medal winner, China’s Jiajie Mi (681.8).

Amanpreet’s performance also helped the Indian squad grab team silver with a total of 1691 out of 1800. Zakir Khan (561) and Harit Babbar (555) were the other Indian shooters in the team.

The results: Junior men: Air pistol: 1. Jiajie Mi (Chn) (580, 101.8) 681.8, 2. Amanpreet Singh (Ind) (575, 95.5) 670.5, 3. Shenghua Jhao (Chn) (579, 88.9) 668.9.
