Builder’s employee kidnapped, released Crime notes

BANGALORE: Associates of the jailed gangster Parandhama allegedly kidnapped an employee of a builder from near Minto Hospital and released him after obtaining a ransom of Rs. 8 lakh. The incident which took place on November 20 has now come to light with the victim C.P. Thammaraju of Govindapura lodging a complaint with the Central police station on Tuesday. According to the complaint, a seven-member gang kidnapped Thamma-raju, who works as a supervisor with a builder, and took him to an isolated building at Parappana Agrahara. They held him captive for two days and later released him for a ransom of Rs. 8 lakh. A few days ago, the former Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu, accompanied by around 200 builders, had met Commissioner of Police Neelam Achuta Rao and complained that several builders were receiving extortion calls from Parandhama. On a complaint by two businessmen and a builder, the Channamana-kere Achukattu police had registered a case and taken into their custody Parandhama, who was lodged in Parappana Agrahra jail, for investigations. He was allegedly making extortion calls from the jails using mobile phones.

Robbed

An armed gang attacked a bill collector of a private agency with clubs and swords and robbed him of a bag containing Rs. 2.50 lakh cash in Madivala police station limits on Tuesday evening. The police said that M. Raja, working with a private company in Mittal Towers on Mahatma Gandhi Road, was riding his motorcycle to collect money from customers at Vishwapriya Layout on Hosur Road. Around 6.45 p.m. three men riding a motorcycle dashed against Mr. Raja’s vehicle at Hongasandra. As he fell, they attacked him with clubs and swords and made away with the bag containing cash, cheques, bills and other documents. An injured Mr. Raja has been admitted to a hospital, the police said.

Burgled

Burglars struck at a house in Electronics City police station limits on Tuesday and looted gold ornaments and electronic goods, all estimated at Rs. 1.3 lakh. The police said the thieves had entered G. Vardhan’s house in Chikkabegur Layout by cutting the window grills.
