Plans to train 4,000 to 6,000 fresh graduates each year To provide accommodation for 1,000 trainees MANGALORE: EDS Learning and Leadership Academy (ELLA) of MphasiS, an EDS company, intends to take on board trainees from the U.S., China and Europe during the next 12 months, according to Jerry Rao, chairman, MphasiS. ELLA, which has trained 1,000 graduates at its centre here since February, has plans to train 4,000 to 6,000 fresh graduates each year at the academy. Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Mr. Rao described ELLA as a “mini-university” and said it had been developed with an aim to meet the increasing need for technically qualified and professionally sound employee base at MphasiS. It was aimed at creating a talent pool with skill mixes that would have an impact on business. “The students on completion of their training will be deployed in any of our delivery centres in India or abroad,” he added. Mr. Rao said there were plans to set up residential accommodation to house up to 1,000 trainees on its campus at Morgan’s Gate here. SkillsStating that ELLA was leveraging assistance from local colleges and university in training the graduates, Mr. Rao said the academy had drawn up plans to train around 50 personnel in the middle manager category in technical and managerial skills. Trained human resource was an important part of the information technology industry and ELLA would ensure that this talent was readily available to cater to the company’s growing volume of business. On reasons for choosing Mangalore to set up ELLA, Mr. Rao said Dakshina Kannada had emerged as a leading education hub in the State and this would ensure a steady talent pool available for training at all times. Deepak Patel, managing director, MphasiS, said the academy took on board engineering and MCA graduates with 0-18 months experience and put them through a nine-week training module. From 2008, MphasiS would focus on training engineering graduates for information technology outsourcing business. It also had plans to expand services to include training for experienced engineers to enhance their knowledge and skills.
