Handicrafts show inaugurated

Kakinada: Joint Collector GSRKR Vijay Kumar on Thursday inaugurated an exhibition of the Andhra Pradesh Handicrafts Development Corporation (Lepakshi) at Painda Chalamayya Srinivasa Kalyanamandapam in Kakinada town. He went round the stalls and said that the Government had ordered such exhibitions to be organised throughout the State to promote traditional handicrafts of Andhra Pradesh which won worldwide acclaim for their beautiful designs and the expertise of artisans.
Lepakshi Rajahmundry branch manager M Kumar Ratnam said the exhibition would be on up to December 18. The APHDC had recorded a turnover of Rs 35 crore in 2004-05 and improved it to Rs 43 crore in 2005-06.
A sales turnover of Rs 50 crore was set for 2006-07 and till now Rs 47.35 crore had been earned. Seventy five percent of the targeted turnover of Rs 60 crore for 2007-08, was achieved. The APHDC’s Rajahmundry branch achieved a sales turnover of Rs 99.34 lakh in 2006-07.
The profit was Rs 1.25 lakh. Exhibition in-charge Sk Sirajuddin, APHDC officer A Devadasu and managing partner of the venue Painda Ratnaji Rao were present.
