Funds under NHRM are not being properly utilised, says official

8,000 kits to be distributed under the Madilu scheme by December-end

DHARWAD: Madangopal, Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare, and election observer for Dharwad district, has said that the draft voters’ list for the district will be announced on January 10.

Speaking to presspersons here on Thursday during his visit to Dharwad to review election-related matters, he said that in order to ensure a foolproof voters’ list, the State Government had assigned the work of monitoring election-related work to 11 secretaries who will each handle three districts.

Mr. Madangopal maintained there were no discrepancies in the voters’ list as it was rectified after the elections to the urban local bodies. Voters should use Form No. 6 to get their names included or to rectify discrepancies in their names or other details, he said.

Mr. Madangopal said the use of photo identity cards would not be mandatory during the general elections as the time for issuing them was too short. He said political parties should also keep voters informed and create awareness among them.

NHRM

Mr. Madangopal said although Rs. 350 crore had been set aside for the State under the National Rural Health Mission (NHRM), it was not being properly utilised. He said that although Rs. 10,000 was released for maintenance of hygiene and Rs. 75,000 for maintenance of Primary Health Centres, not many had come forward to utilise the funds.

Udupi district had made use of maximum funds under the mission, and Bangalore Rural district was in the last place, he said.

Mr. Madangopal said that there were complaints about discrepancies in the Janani Suraksha scheme, and there was not much demand for kits under the Madilu scheme. Officials had been directed to distribute 8,000 kits under the scheme by December-end, he added.

He said there was no dearth of funds in the Department of Health and Family Welfare, but money had to be utilised properly. In this regard, regional review meetings would be held in Belgaum on December 15, in Gulbarga on December 19, in Mysore on December 27 and in Bangalore on December 29, he added.

Earlier, Mr. Madangopal held a review meeting on the preparations for the general elections.
