Man dies in freak accident in Hassan

Staff Correspondent

HASSAN: Drivers and cleaners of tankers staged a dharna before the HPCL filling station at Channapatna in Hassan on Thursday in protest against the death of a cleaner, who died in a freak accident.

Thippe Swamy (40), a native of Hiriyur, was standing in front of the tanker when he was run over. According to tanker drivers, the filling process is automated to prevent fires. Tankers move along a platform for the filling process. Once the tanker is full, it is pushed forward.

Thippe Swamy, who was standing in the front of the vehicle, was crushed to death when the tanker moved forward after it was filled. He was rushed to the Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences, where he was declared dead.

The protesters demanded payment of compensation to the victim’s family. The Hassan police have registered a case.
