Staff Correspondent

Extension of deadline for submitting applications sought

Plea: Members of the Basavanagar Hitabhivruddhi Sangha submitting a memorandum addressed to the Governor in Dharwad on Thursday.

DHARWAD: Residents’ associations in Dharwad have urged Governor Rameshwar Thakur to amend the rules of the Sakrama scheme, which provides an opportunity for citizens to regularise illegal structures.

Residents of Rajnagar, Sonapur, Ajad Nagar, Malapur, Gulaganjikoppa and Mehboobnagar submitted a memorandum addressed to the Governor, through the district administration, on Wednesday. The members of the Basavanagar Hitabhivruddhi Sangha too submitted a similar memorandum on Thursday.

Both the memorandums urge that changes be made in the rules of the scheme so that it would be helpful for people who had constructed buildings on lands taken on lease.

The residents complained that the present rules and regulations prevented them from applying for regularisation under the scheme.

The members and office-bearers of the Muslim Elites’ Forum, Dharwad, too urged the Governor to amend the guidelines of the regularisation scheme. In a memorandum addressed to the Governor, the forum sought extension of the deadline set for the applying for regularisation.

According to it, the guidelines do not benefit the poor. Through the memorandum, the forum also urged the Governor to allow the poor to remit the penalty in instalments.
