Expedite underground drainage works: Stalin

The Rs.39.26 crore-project under way in Tiruvarur district
|

TIRUVARUR: Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin has instructed officials of the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board to expedite the underground drainage work here and complete it before the stipulated time of eighteen months. He inspected the works on Wednesday.
Giving details of the project, Collector M. Chandrasekaran said pipelines had been laid so far to a distance of two km. The estimated cost of the works was about Rs.39.26 crore. Out of the total amount, the State government’s share was Rs.27 crore, the urban development loan Rs.5.39 crore and the rest was the municipality’s share.
Mr. Stalin said the scheme was being implemented as per the government’s decision to construct underground drainage works in all district headquarters.
Five pumping stations
Under the project, pipelines would be laid to a total distance of 71.68 km. The town was been divided into five zones and five pumping stations would be put up. There would be 15 lifting stations and a sewage treatment plant.
Dairy Development Minister, U. Mathivanan, Nagapattinam MP A.K.S. Vijayan, Tiruvarur municipality chairman Thennan, municipality vice-chairman Shankar, municipal commissioner Kalimuthu, TWAD executive engineer S. Rajendran and other officials accompanied the Minister.
