Gold jewellery stolen

ARIYALUR: In a burglary at two houses, near Jayamkondam, on Wednesday night, a group of three unidentified persons escaped with a booty of about 20 sovereigns of gold jewellery.

Police said in either cases, a group of three persons gained entry through the back door of the houses and snatched the chains of the women. One of the women who offered resistance, was injured as the culprits allegedly attacked her with some weapon.

The trio first gained entry into the residence of Indira in Indira Nagar and robbed her of gold chain, weighing about 6.5 sovereigns. When her husband Annadurai attempted to chase the culprits, one of them attacked him with a rod on the leg.

In a similar operation, the group later robbed Ananthanayaki of Pagutharivu Nagar and robbed her of gold chain weighing about 14 sovereigns, police said. Police dogs were pressed into service.

The Jayamkondam police have registered cases under Section 394 (Burglary) and Section 457 and 380 (House breaking for committing offences.
