Electricity board is forced to resort to load-shedding owing to production shortfall TIRUPATTUR: Arbitrary power cuts pose a lot of problems to commercial establishments in and around Tirupattur. According to sources, there have been power cuts in the township area everyday for the past 15 days. Some political parties recently staged a demonstration condemning the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board for the arbitrary power cuts. Some representatives of the parties said that the electricity board was inefficient to tackle the issue. During winterThey wondered why there should be power cuts during winter. Electricity board staff said that the problem was not only at Tirupattur but across the State. The main reason behind disruptions was owing to problems in power generation which would be rectified in two to three days, they said. Owing to shortfall in power generation, the board workers were forced to resort to load shedding. For instance in Tirupattur, the board resorted to load shedding at least for four hours a day. The timings was from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. This time was applied only to areas within the town limit. But in the neighbouring parts of Tirupattur, including Durai Nagar, Thillai Nagar, Lakshmi Nagar and Asiriyar Nagar, load shedding timings were different. The board in these areas resorted to load shedding either before or after the load shedding time fixed for areas within the town limit. Situation differentResidents said that the situation was different in areas including Krishnagiri Main Road and Government Garden coming within the town limit where people experienced arbitrary power cuts apart from the time fixed for load shedding. Besides the regular four-hour power cut, there were power disruptions for one to two hours a day. Many people opined that the problem was owing to a transformer. The main transformer opposite to the Tirupattur taluk office was overloaded. All important government offices and banks were in these two areas. Electricity board staff said that the transformer was old and a new one had been installed at the Housing Board area near the municipality. The old transformer would cater to business establishments on Krishnagiri Main Road. Further, the adjoining residential areas including North Agraharam, Ranganathan Street and Housing Board area near the municipality would benefit.
