Bangalore: The Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Thursday made it clear that no MP from the party would contest the Assembly elections. There were reports that several BJP MPs were keen to contest the elections as they felt that the party would have good prospects of coming to power in the State. This had caused concern among former MLAs of the party as the entry of MPs into the poll fray might affect their prospects. However, Mr. Yeddyurappa told presspersons that no MP from the party would contest the elections. He also denied media reports that the BJP central committee would select the candidates. The party’s State election committee will select candidates with clearance from the central committee, he said. Mr. Yeddyurappa also clarified that the party had not assured tickets to newcomers. He said tickets would be given to candidates who had lost the previous polls by a narrow margin.
