Adarsh, Anju crowned champions

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: P. Adarsh (Tvm) and Anju K. Thomas (Tvm) won the singles titles in the men’s and women’s sections respectively in the State table tennis championship at the Jimmy George indoor stadium on Thursday.

The top seed Adarsh overcame second seed Vishnunarayan (Alp) 9-11, 11-6, 13-11, 11-6, 11-6 in the final. Anju also lived up to her billing as the top seed to beat Aparna D. Nair (Tvm) 13-11, 12-10, 7-11, 11-9, 11-9 in the final.

The finals of the junior events were hit badly as some players had to rush to Mizoram to play in the school Nationals. Vishnunaryanan helped himself to a double by winning both the youth boys and junior boys singles titles after his opponent S. Sundar had left for Mizoram. Anju also won a double and Thiruvananthapuram men and women emerged champions in the team events.

The results: Men’s singles (final): P. Adarsh (Tvm) bt Vishnunarayan (Alp) 9-11, 11-6, 13-11, 11-6, 11-6.

Semifinals: Adarsh bt R. Rajesh (Tvm) 11-2, 11-2, 11-9, 15-13; Vishnunarayan w/o S. Sundar (Alp).

Youth boy’s singles (final): Vishnunarayanan (Alp) w/o S. Sundar (Alp).

Semifinals: Vishnunarayan bt Sarath V. Joy (Alp) 11-9, 11-6, 8-11, 11-8, 11-9; Sundar bt S. Arjun (Tvm) 11-13, 11-8, 11-7, 11-6, 13-11.

Junior boy’s singles (final): Vishnunarayan (Alp) w/o S. Sundar (Alp).

Semifinals: Vishnunarayan bt Sarath V. Joy (Alp) 13-11, 11-9, 11-7, 6-11, 11-3; Sundar bt S. Arjun (Tvm) 11-6, 9-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-13, 11-6.

Women’s singles (final): Anju K. Thomas (Tvm) bt Aparna D. Nair (Tvm) 13-11, 12-10, 7-11, 11-9, 11-9.

Semifinals: Aparna bt Lakshmi Vijayan (Tvm) 14-12, 5-11, 11-2, 11-6, 9-11, 11-8; Anju bt M.R. Ranjana (Kzde) 2-11, 11-4, 13-15, 11-6, 12-10, 11-6.

Youth girl’s singles (final): Anju K. Thomas (Tvm) bt Lakshmi Vijayan (Tvm) 11-7, 11-6, 6-11, 11-4, 11-5.

Junior girl’s singles (finals): Adheena K. Lathif (Idk) bt Lakshmi Prabha 7-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-9, 10-12,12-10, 11-4.

Semifinals: Adheena bt Anjali Vasudevan ( Kzde) 11-5, 11-7, 11-7, 11-7; Lakshmi Prabha bt Shika Jacob (Alp) 6-11, 12-10, 11-2, 11-7 11-8.
