150 home guards given prizes for their services in Warangal 40 home guards in Kadapa make it to regular police services ADILABAD: The growing importance and dependence on home guards was underscored by Adilabad Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar on Thursday as he enlisted the increasingly crucial duties being allocated to them. Delivering his address at the Home Guards Raising Day celebrations at the police parade ground, the SP traced the history of home guards which is associated with volunteer forces for civil defence that had sprung up in United Kingdom during the Second World War. Home guards also played a role in anti-naxal operations, maintenance of law and order sharing the burden of the regular policemen, besides contributing in detecting crime. A giant logo of the home guards was unveiled by him on the occasion. AR DSP Md. Hussain and RI Sanjeev also attended. Warangal Staff Reporter writes: Home Guards were doing great job supplementing the efforts of the police, said Superintendent of Police, Soumya Mishra here on Thursday. Reviewing a colourful parade presented by the home guards on the 44th Raising Day celebrations, the SP said the police department and the State government were well aware of the contribution being made by the home guards. She lauded the gesture of home guards in the district who had pooled up money from their salaries to help the families of deceased members. The SP pointed out that certain incidents had come to light wherein some home guards were bringing bad name to the department by their unacceptable behaviour. “Indiscipline will not be tolerated whether it is committed by the police or the Home Guards. Being in uniform, one is expected to conduct in decent manner. Those working in uniform services should behave with restraint whether on duty or not,” she said.Recalling the services rendered by the home guards at the recent AP Police Duty Meet, the SP honoured 150 Home Guards for the success of the meet. They were all given prizes in recognition of their services. Later, the home guards took out a rally from District Police Office to Hanamkonda chowrastha and then back. It was flagged of by the SP. Kadapa Staff Reporter writes: Kadapa Superintendent of Police Y. Nagi Reddy on Thursday said that home guards were working with discipline and a service motto. Speaking at the 44th Home Guards Raising Day at Police parade grounds here, he recalling the rescue operations when an RTC bus was stranded in flood waters at Chitvel, he lauded them for rescuing 15 passengers. Home guards were rendering selfless services on payment of an honorarium by the Government, the SP stated. They were working on a par with the policemen in factional areas, . Forty home guards were selected in civil, Armed Reserve, APSP and SPF in addition to 871 working in the district, Mr. Nagi Reddy said. He gave away prizes to those winning 100 metres sprint, 400 metres and shotput for men and women and best turnout. Later, the SP flagged off a rally from the parade grounds. Additional SP L.S. Chowhan, DSP D. Narasimha Reddy, Home Guards Commaders Y.S. Silar and Srihari, Home Guards incharge Ravisankar, circle inspectors and sub-inspectors participated.
