Editors Guild seeks changes in Contempt of Court Act

NEW DELHI: The Editors Guild of India on has sought changes in the Contempt of Court Act “as the present suo moto prosecution of media and journalists by the judiciary is casting a shadow on the freedom of the press.”

Dialogue with judiciary

At its annual general meeting here earlier this week, the Guild decided to approach Parliament to press for changes in the Act. Further, it decided to organise a dialogue with the judiciary.

President re-elected

Meanwhile, Mr. Alok Mehta (editor of Outlook Sapthahik) was re-elected as the president of the Guild.

Also, K.S. Sachidananda Murthy (resident editor of Malayala Manorama) and Y.C. Halan (consultant editor of Asian Defence Review) were re-elected for another term.
