‘Produce receipts for medicines purchased’

Staff Reporter

ADILABAD: Adilabad District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) S. Vignanachary faced a piquant situation on Thursday when Boath MLA Soyam Bapu Rao demanded the details with regard to purchase of medicines for control of the continuing deaths due to tropical fevers in tribal areas of Adilabad district. The MLA wanted to see the receipts pertaining to the purchase of medicines.

Mr. Bapu Rao demanded the details pertaining to the Rs. 10 lakh that was spent by the DMHO. After more than two hours of efforts, the officer could produce receipts for about Rs. 2 lakh of purchases. The MLA told The Hindu that one receipt for about Rs. 1.9 lakh was dated December 6 and another for about Rs. 20,000 was dated December 1. “This means that the officer had used his clout with some drug store to issue the receipts,” he pointed out.
