Rallies mark Black Day

Sangareddy: Barring an incident in which a woman was hurt in a scuffle with the protesters in the Friday market are here the Black Day observed by some Muslim organisations passed on peacefully in Medak district today. While the shops and other establishments remained closed banks and other Government institutions functioned normally. There was mild tension in the old town where the enthusiastic activists tried to close down a shop and in a heated argument with the shop owner the lady was pushed hurting her. The police have taken the suspects into custody. A protest meeting was also organised in the Nalsabgadda area of the old town by the municipal councillor Shaik Saber. Hundreds of protesters also took out a motorcycle rally in the town. In Zaheerabad and Gajwel the protesters organised rallies wearing black badges and submitted memorandums demanding reconstruction of the disputed structure in Ayodhya to the Tahasildars.

Staff Reporter Nizamabad reports: Muslim minorities in minority areas of the town on Thursday observed black day and bandh in connection with the 15th anniversary of the demolition of Babri Masjid. As a result, some of the minority areas like Ahmedinagar and Bodhan Road wore a deserted look with shops and establishments being closed. Security was beefed up with strong contingents of armed police since last night. No untoward incident was reported from any part of the district. Meanwhile, the leaders of Muslim Ithehadul Muslimeen and the Muslim Personal Law Committee submitted a memorandum to authorities at the Collectorate condemning the Babri mosque demolition and demanding its reconstruction at its original place.

Correspondent from Mahabubnagar reports: The bandh call given by various Muslim organisation in protest over the demolition of Babri Masjid went off peacefully in Mahabubnagar district on Thursday. The demonstrators who assembled at the Clock Tower junction in the morning took out a rally to the Collectorate where they submitted a memorandum to the District Revenue officer Jaya Ramaiah in which they demanded that Babri Masjid should be constructed at the same site. According to reports reaching here similar bandhs were observed in Jedcharla, Shadnagar, Wanaparthy and Narayanpet towns in the district.
