YSR gets tumultuous welcome in Kuppam Almost announces M. Subramanyam Reddy’s candidature KUPPAM: Kuppam, considered the citadel of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) gave a thunderous welcome Chief Minister Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. During his visit to Kuppam on Thursday Dr. Reddy took part in a number of programmes and explained the developmental activities being taken up by his government. Getting into the ‘election mode’ at the public meeting organised to launch ‘Rajiv Arogya Sri’ in Chittoor district, he stopped short of announcing the Zilla Parishad chairperson M. Subramanyam Reddy as the candidate to be pitted against the TDP supremo in the next general elections. He asked the public to dethrone their incumbent MLA and welcome the party’s candidate with open hands. Chief whip N.Kirankumar Reddy appreciated Subramanyam Reddy, a native of Kuppam constituency, for staying in touch with the grassroots and asked the public to ‘consider’ this point. While urging the Kuppam voters not to fall prey to the evil machinations of the TDP yet again, Medical Education Minister Galla Arunakumari asked them to keep in mind the developmental activities taken by the Congress. AppealMember of Legislative Council R. Gopinathan also appealed to the voters to stamp out TDP from their soil and welcome a ‘working candidate’. He recalled in this connection that Mr. Naidu never visited his constituency even to file his election papers, leave alone for seeking his voters’ blessings ahead of the elections. Earlier, he rubbed the audience on the wrong side by stating that the TDP cheated the Kuppam public, which was met with a loud boo from the crowd. Even the district in-charge minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy was visibly gripped by the ‘election fever’ who asked the public to vote for the Congress candidate.
