ALAPPUZHA: Students at the Alappuzha T.D. Medical College here have launched a strike against what they call the government’s attempt to stifle opportunities that they would normally have access to after completing the MBBS course. The indefinite strike launched on Thursday is against the Centre’s reported move to add an extra year to the MBBS course in the form of a year’s compulsory rural service, for which a Bill is expected to be presented in Parliament in the forthcoming winter session. The students, who took out a protest rally here on Thursday, are planning to intensify the strike. — Staff Reporter
