New policy for regularisation of illegal connections

Penalty of Rs.3,000 has been done away with

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Jal Board has introduced two rebate schemes for development charges and announced a liberalised policy for regularisation of unauthorised water connections.

The Jal Board has said that unauthorised water connections will be regularised subject to legal and technical feasibility and payment of Rs.1,000 per connection.

The water utility has done away with the penalty of Rs.3,000 and will instead levy a one-year service charge depending on the category.

Consumers who want a regular connection will have to pay initial charges including opening fee, water advance and development charge if applicable.

Payment in instalments

The Jal Board will allow consumers to pay development charges in instalments as per policy and the rebate scheme will be applicable to those seeking new connections as well.

For colonies notified up to December 5, 1999, excluding cases covered by agreements under any previous policy of the department prior to April 2, 1987, the quantum of rebate on interest of sewerage development charges will be 70 per cent.

For colonies that have been notified with effect from December 6, 1999, to March 31, 2006, the quantum of rebate on water development charges will be 20 per cent.
